Handmade Christmas Pledge Update - New Zealand Artists

New Zealand Arists

As some of you might know lots of my family is from the land of the long white cloud, its been a couple of years since we have been able to make the trip over but we are hoping that we will be able to get over there later this year. So to start off this years Handmade Christmas Pledge this post is dedicated to some wonderful NZ artists.

I'm so in love with this print. The colour is so wonderful.
(To my little shorty, if this was to turn up under the Christmas Tree you would make me very happy lol)

I have been in love with this brooch for a long time.

The chunky knit and cable of this cushion is so great.

This ring is just adorable.

These just make me laugh.

I really want to get one of these for my son. if only it would pick up the towel for him we would be all set lol.

So while I sit back here and dream of being in NZ I hope you all enjoy these great Kiwi artists and our first Handmade Christmas Pledge Post for 2010.

Stay Tuned for later in the week for our first Madeit Handmade Christmas Pledge post.

One Amazing Year

One year ago today I started my shop on Etsy and Imagination In Flight was born, it's been a really amazing ride. I would have never thought a year ago that Imagination In Flight would have gone in the direction it has, let alone being on twitter and writing my own blog. While I still find etsy very overwhelming, finding Madeit has been a real blessing. The wonderful community of fellow crafters of Madeit with their support, advice and friendship have really helped along the way. I also have to thank all my fantastic customers for their support over the year. It always gives me such joy to check my emails and find I have made a sale.

To celebrate Imagination In Flight's first birthday we will be having a giveaway and a sale.

Giveaway
To celebrate we will be giving away one of my new Mini Floral Bunting, 1 Multi Purple and Cream Crochet Headband, and you choice of 1 Personalized Pencil Roll. With the pencil roll you can choose between either Purple Floral & Denim, Japanese Writing & Denim, and Denim on Denim.

Ok so here's how its going to work.

You need to be a follower of the blog. If you are not already a follower of the blog, click on the follow button to the right.
Leave a comment below to enter the giveaway.
If you tweet about this giveaway, or mention on your blog about this giveaway you will receive an extra entry (you will need to leave a comment if you do either of these so that I can keep track of all the entries).
You will also receive an extra entry if you order something from either my Etsy or Madeit shops.

The giveaway winner will be randomly picked on the night of Friday the 23rd of April 2010.

New Soft Toy Owl

With my Christmas Owls being such a hit I decided to make some bigger ones. So far I have only made one for the girls but I will eventually get around to making some for the boys also.

The large floral fabric on the tummy and the back is flannel giving it a very soft feel. Also the eyes and beak are hand sewn on with silver thread to give it a little sparkle. The polkadot wings are sewn in such a way that you can slide your hand under them, a bit like a open pocket. (Oh and this is the first thing that will have my new labels on, yay)

You can find this one on my Madeit Shop and my Etsy Shop. I will have a couple more girl ones on the way soon.

New Headbands

Well I'm getting there, finally. Today I listed four new headband on my Madeit shop and updated the photos on my last headband I had left in the shop.
With any hope I will have the rest listed by the end of the weekend and all of them up on my Etsy shop.

UPDATE - The purple large flower headband has already sold.

Handmade Christmas Pledge Update

So it has taken me a while but I am finally getting around to updating everyone on Our Handmade Christmas Pledge. This has really taken on a life of its own in our little family, not only are our gifts going to be handmade but also our decorations.

For those of you out there that are wondering if we have set any rules to follow for our little challenge the answer is yes. They are,
  • Gifts will be purchased from either Etsy or like online market place, Local markets, and Oxfam or like stores or handmade by myself.
  • The only items that can be purchased from stores not listed above are supplies (except for the 25% exception for my son(see last post for details)).
  • All gift wrapping, cards and ribbons are to be either purchased from either Etsy or like online market place, Local markets, and Oxfam or like stores or to be handmade by myself.
  • And any other rules that I decide should be added along the way

Gifts so far.....
In my last blog I mentioned that I had purchased a pattern for a crochet cupcake cushion from djonesgirlz (http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5096274), It looks fantastic and I will post a photo shortly (My camera has lost battery power).

I also made another purchase this time from YellowViolet (http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=7266542) this beautifully made basket is so gorgeous I think I will have to get one for myself.
For one of my special family I purchased a patten from knotsewcute (http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5771714) and have already made up a bath mitt and a spa cloth. I am really happy with the way these turned out and I cant wait to start the matching bath mat.

My little "man" is in love with his recliner. When we got the daybed for the lounge room my son made a plea to keep the recliner as a result it has now become his. To help complete his little area of the lounge room I have started making him a rug for the area using a pattern I purchased from RedBerryCrochet (http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=62703). Its making up really fast and easy, as I have just started on this project I will post some pics next post.

And.....

Next post I will update everyone on how we are going with our handmade decorations. There are some really great ideas out there.

Plus....

Stay tuned for our competition coming very soon.

I don't expect everyone will want to go fully handmade for Christmas but even if you try a small part it can make a huge difference to the handmade community.

Christmas 2009 Pledge

Every year I like to either make or buy some handmade presents for Christmas but this year will be different. This year in the spirit of karma, or what goes around comes around we are making a pledge that all presents to family and friends and 75% of presents for my son (it wouldn't be Christmas for him without getting his favourite books) will be handmade. We will also be buying handmade cards, and wrapping paper.

To start off this pledge I found a wonderful pattern for crochet cupcake pillows by djonesgirlz http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5096274 that will be perfect for my cousin once i make it up.
I would like to hope that other Artist would also like to make this pledge this year.
